Review Of The High Performance Ultralight Weight Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Tent (Part 1 Of 2)
February 4th, 2011 by Sam-Frea

This is the first part of a two installment article about the ultralight Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 tent.

This tent is exceptionally spaceous, light and designed for high performance so is ideal for a backpacking trip in the outdoors. Big Agnes already have a strong reputation for well designed, reliable, lightweight tents and they have done it again with the ultralight Copper Spur range which comprises four tents including the award winning Copper Spur UL3 and the newly launched Copper Spur UL4. The Copper Spur UL1 is a very light solo tent that is able to comfortably accommodate one person, in addition to their kit , with enought space to fit in your four legged companion too. Three season, feature rich and ultralight, outdoor enthusiasts are going to love this tent.

Big Agnes have gone back to basics to reduce weight without compromising quality or performance to compete in the ultraligtht camping niche. By way of example, two means this has been achieved is by reducing the size of the zippers and incorporating an ultralight 15-denier nylon fly that is incredibly rugged because its fibers are twisted twice for additional strength. This has enabled the Copper Spur UL1 to achive a trail weight of just 2lb 11oz with the packed weight only adding 5oz taking it to 3lb. At these specifications you may be tempted to take the optional footprint (4.5oz) along with you to reduce abrasion and damage to the tent floor from sharp objects. For a really light adventure , the fast fly weight is only 2lb 2oz.

The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 uses the state of the art Featherlite NSL pole system from manufacturer DAC, fabricated from eco-friendly anodized TH72M aluminium, with press fit connectors and lightweight hubs.
